You’ve got to hand it to Marvel Studios. The release of Spider-Man: Far From Home is only a little over a week away and we’re still talking about Avengers: Endgame – which, mind you, came out in April. That’s not to say people aren’t interested in Spidey’s upcoming standalone feature, but it does attest to the power that an interconnected universe has.
How you can talk about just one of these movies, anyway? Especially now that Endgame’s massive box office run has put the film just $38 million behind Avatar’s all-time worldwide record. Marvel fans have recently started to rally against James Cameron’s 2009 hit, which has held the crown for nearly ten years and is now viewed as the one final hurdle the movie must cross before it gets a home video release at the end of the summer. At the time of writing, Anthony and Joe Russo’s Infinity War sequel has accumulated $2.750 billion, and it’s set to rake in even more money when a brand new, special features-laden edition hits theaters this weekend.
But when, exactly, can you fork over another $10-$20 directly into Marvel’s pocket for your ticket? Well, according to the UK cinema chain Cineworld, tickets to Avengers: Endgame + Bonus Content – as it’s being marketed online – go on sale at 6PM, Tuesday, so a little over a day from now.
The new cut of the film (which Marvel boss Kevin Feige says isn’t an Extended Edition) will feature deleted scenes, a special tribute to Stan Lee post-credits, and few other “surprises” for fans. Marvel no doubt hopes this will be enough to draw in enough folks to push Endgame beyond Avatar’s $2.788 billion record and I truly think it just might be the thing that does it.
Considering the finale of the summer’s biggest hit ties in so heavily to Peter Parker’s standalone journey, Avengers: Endgame might be worth catching one more time in theaters anyway. After all, Spider-Man: Far From Home is set to bring the entire Infinity War saga to a close when it hits theaters July 2nd.
